ISN'T IT TIME....
FOR A DEPARTMENT OF PEACE?

The South Jersey Department of Peace Campaign
What is the Department of Peace & Non-Violence  Bill?

Dennis Kucinich, a Congressional Representative from Ohio, introduced legislation to establish a Department of Peace in the United States government, in 2001. By the end of 2004 in the 108th Congress, there were 52 members of Congress who cosponsored this legislation.

The bill will establish a cabinet level Department of Peace, which shall be headed by a Secretary of Peace, which shall be appointed by the President, with the advice and consent of the Senate. The mission of the Department will be to; (1) hold peace as an organizing principle in society; (2) endeavor to promote justice and democratic principles to expand human rights; and (3) develop policies that promote national and international conflict prevention, nonviolent intervention, mediation, peaceful resolution of conflict, and structured mediation of conflict. The bill would also establish the Intergovernmental Advisory Council on Peace, which shall provide assistance and  make recommendations to the Secretary and the President concerning intergovernemental policies relating to peace and nonviolent conflict resolution.
